National Technology Day: My Journey in Promoting Technology-Driven Biogas Solutions for Sustainable Development

By Dr. A. Sajidas – International Biogas Consultant & Managing Director,  BIOTECH Renewable Energy

Every year on May 11, India celebrates National Technology Day, a day that recognizes the power of innovation, science, and technology in shaping the future of our nation. For me, this day is not just a national celebration. It is also a moment of reflection—a time to think about how technology can improve the lives of ordinary people and create sustainable solutions for future generations.

As someone who has spent decades working in the renewable energy and biogas sector, I strongly believe that technology should not remain limited to laboratories or research institutions. Real technology is meaningful only when it reaches villages, households, farmers, women, and communities struggling with daily challenges such as fuel shortages, waste disposal, pollution, and rising living costs.

India is a country blessed with enormous human potential and abundant natural resources. At the same time, we are facing major challenges related to energy security, environmental pollution, climate change, and waste management. These issues cannot be solved through conventional methods alone. We need innovative, practical, and affordable technologies that can create long-term social and environmental impact.

This is exactly where renewable energy technologies, especially biogas technology, play a vital role.

For more than three decades, through BIOTECH INDIA, I have been working to promote technology-driven biogas systems for both rural and urban communities. My mission has always been simple—to convert organic waste into a valuable source of clean energy and to make sustainable technology accessible to common people.

When I started my journey in the biogas sector, many people considered biogas plants complicated, expensive, and suitable only for villages with cattle farms. Traditional systems required masonry construction, large spaces, and skilled maintenance. Many urban users believed biogas technology was outdated and inconvenient.

However, I believed that with proper innovation and engineering, biogas technology could be transformed into a modern, user-friendly, and highly effective renewable energy solution.

This vision led to the development of advanced portable biogas systems under BIOTECH INDIA. We focused on creating compact, durable, and efficient plants that could be easily installed in homes, institutions, farms, hostels, hotels, and community kitchens.

One of our major achievements has been the development of Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP)-based portable biogas plants. These systems are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, long-lasting, and easy to transport and install. Compared to traditional fixed biogas systems, portable models offer greater flexibility and convenience.

Today, portable biogas plants are becoming increasingly important because modern society requires decentralized and space-efficient technologies. Urban households and institutions often lack the space and technical expertise needed for conventional systems. Portable biogas technology bridges this gap.

On this National Technology Day, I am especially proud to highlight one of our latest innovations—the Turbo High-Pressure Portable Biogas Plant developed by BIOTECH INDIA.

This advanced system is the result of years of practical experience, field observations, research, and technological improvement. The Turbo High-Pressure Portable Biogas Plant has been designed with seven unique features that make it a true breakthrough in the small and medium-scale biogas sector.

One of the major limitations of conventional biogas systems has been low gas pressure. In many traditional plants, users face difficulties due to inconsistent gas flow and pressure variations. Our Turbo High-Pressure technology addresses this challenge effectively by generating higher pressure biogas suitable for more efficient cooking applications.

This innovation significantly improves user experience and makes biogas technology more practical for modern households and commercial establishments.

Another important aspect of this technology is its simplicity. I strongly believe that technology should be user-friendly. Even the most advanced system will fail if ordinary people find it difficult to operate. Therefore, our focus has always been on creating systems that are easy to use, easy to maintain, and affordable for common people.

The Turbo High-Pressure Portable Biogas Plant converts kitchen waste and organic waste into clean cooking gas and high-quality organic manure. In today’s world, where waste management has become a serious challenge, this technology provides a practical waste-to-energy solution.

In rural areas, the impact of biogas technology is enormous. Many families still depend on firewood and traditional cooking methods. This causes indoor air pollution, health problems, and environmental degradation. Women and children spend valuable time collecting firewood instead of focusing on education or income-generating activities.

Biogas technology offers a sustainable alternative. Farmers can use cattle dung, agricultural waste, and kitchen waste to generate clean energy directly at their homes. This reduces fuel expenses and improves quality of life.

Additionally, the slurry produced from biogas plants is an excellent organic fertilizer that supports sustainable farming and improves soil health. In this way, biogas technology supports both renewable energy production and organic agriculture.

At the same time, urban India is facing a growing waste management crisis. Every day, cities generate massive quantities of food waste and kitchen waste. Much of this organic waste ends up in dumping yards, producing methane emissions and causing environmental pollution.

Technology-driven portable biogas systems can play a major role in solving this problem. Apartment complexes, hotels, restaurants, educational institutions, and hostels can use biogas plants to convert waste into energy. This reduces waste transportation costs and supports decentralized waste management.

As an international consultant working in renewable energy projects in different countries, I have observed that decentralized renewable energy technologies are becoming increasingly important across the world. Nations are now focusing more on local energy production, sustainability, and circular economy models.

India has tremendous potential to become a global leader in decentralized renewable energy systems, especially biogas technology. We have abundant organic waste resources, skilled human resources, and growing environmental awareness. What we need is continuous innovation, public awareness, and technology adoption.

National Technology Day reminds us that innovation should always serve society. Technology should empower people, protect the environment, and create sustainable economic opportunities.

At BIOTECH INDIA, our goal is not limited to manufacturing biogas plants. We are committed to promoting awareness about renewable energy, environmental protection, waste management, and sustainable living. We conduct training programs, awareness campaigns, technical consultations, and international collaborations to spread the benefits of biogas technology.

I believe the future belongs to technologies that are clean, decentralized, and environmentally responsible. Renewable energy is no longer an option; it is a necessity for the survival and progress of humanity.

The younger generation has a major role to play in this transformation. I encourage students, engineers, entrepreneurs, and innovators to focus on sustainable technologies that solve real-life problems. India needs more innovators who can develop practical solutions for rural development, clean energy, water conservation, waste management, and climate resilience.

On this National Technology Day, I express my sincere gratitude to all the farmers, customers, engineers, technicians, institutions, and supporters who have trusted and encouraged our work over the years.

Technology has the power to transform lives when it is combined with social commitment and environmental responsibility. Through BIOTECH INDIA and our technology-driven biogas projects, I will continue my mission of promoting clean energy solutions for the upliftment of both rural and urban communities.

Let us celebrate National Technology Day by supporting innovations that create a cleaner environment, healthier communities, energy independence, and a sustainable future for generations to come.
