Every year on February 28, India celebrates National Science Day to honor the discovery of the Raman Effect by Nobel Laureate Sir C.V. Raman. This day is not only a tribute to one of India’s greatest scientific minds but also a reminder of the transformative power of science in shaping our society, our environment, and our future. It is a day to reflect on how science can be harnessed to solve pressing challenges and to inspire communities to embrace innovation for sustainable living.



As an international biogas consultant and founder of BIOTECH INDIA, I see National Science Day as an opportunity to highlight the role of renewable energy technologies—particularly biogas—in building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable tomorrow. Biogas plants represent the perfect blend of science and social utility: they convert organic waste into clean energy, reduce pollution, improve public health, and empower communities. 

In this blog, I will explore the significance of National Science Day, the role of biogas plants in energy generation and waste management, and share my personal views on how this technology can transform lives across urban and rural landscapes.

It is based on the principle of anaerobic digestion, where microorganisms break down organic matter—such as kitchen waste, livestock manure, and agricultural residues—in the absence of oxygen. The by-product, known as slurry, is an excellent organic fertilizer that enriches soil health and supports sustainable agriculture. 

This simple yet powerful process embodies the circular economy: waste is not discarded but transformed into wealth. Biogas plants reduce dependence on fossil fuels, cut down harmful emissions, and provide communities with reliable energy. They also address sanitation challenges by safely managing organic waste.

In urban areas, family-size biogas plants can help households manage organic waste responsibly while reducing reliance on LPG or other fossil fuels. Apartment complexes, hotels, and institutions can adopt larger biogas systems to handle food waste efficiently, turning a problem into a resource. In rural communities, biogas plants are transformative. Farmers can use livestock manure and crop residues to generate energy for cooking and lighting, reducing dependence on firewood and kerosene. My Views as an International Biogas Consultant

As the founder and Managing Director of BIOTECH INDIA, I have dedicated my career to advancing biogas technology. My mission has always been to develop cost-effective, scientifically sound biogas systems that can be adopted widely by the public. Over the years, I have witnessed how biogas projects can transform communities, providing not just energy but dignity, empowerment, and hope.
